Preserving the old Books Everyday Life

Beneathatree Archive & Library is an independent physical and digital repository situated in Koramangala, Bengaluru. We collect, contextualize, and preserve everyday objects, popular media, and domestic ephemera.

Our Focus Areas

INTERSECTIONALITY & EPHEMERA

Public Humanities

Creating accessible entry points for students, researchers, artists, and neighborhood residents to engage directly with physical archival records.

Material Culture

Focusing on overlooked everyday tools, wartime rationing jute bags, mid-century commercial packaging, and community ephemera.

We believe that ordinary objects carry extraordinary stories. Official state archives often capture major geopolitical shifts, but domestic spaces, local market stalls, and commercial workshops hold the lived experience of everyday history.

Our holdings feature over 70 cataloged collections (UM-01 to UM-72) comprising printed dailies, manual typewriters, radio receiver licenses, photograph albums, school science apparatuses, and commercial packaging.

One of our prized historical artifacts is a simple jute grocery bag from the 1940s—an object that reveals pre-independence market patterns, material rationing, and early regional distribution chains across South India.
